Plot
SpongeBob realizes that he is not very strong, and Sandy puts him an intense training regimen to help him become more muscular. SpongeBob cannot complete any of the exercises, however, so he gives up and runs back home in pain.

Later that day, he sees an advertisement for inflatable biceps called Anchor Arms. He orders a set, puts them on and goes to Goo Lagoon. He then begins showing them off around Bikini Bottom, gaining many followers in the process. Sandy, seeing his new "muscles", decides that he should test them out in the upcoming anchor toss competition. SpongeBob tries to stop her from entering his name, but SpongeBob did not get there in time, Sandy had just entered his name.

When it is SpongeBob's turn during the anchor toss, he over strains the Anchor Arms, causing the air inside them to randomly move to other parts of his body. Eventually, the Anchor Arms explode, and SpongeBob is disqualified. A disappointed Sandy decides to put him on a new, simpler training regimen in which SpongeBob must repeatedly press buttons on a remote control. Even this, apparently, is difficult for him.

Trivia/Goofs
*Running Gag: Every time SpongeBob attempts one of Sandy's exercises, his arms fall off.
*When SpongeBob hit the pole after Sandy finished entering SpongeBob into the anchor-tossing competition, he was wearing his pants. After that, he was back in his speedo.
*Sandy writes SpongeBob's first and last name as one word.
*Outside Patrick's House
*Chum Bucket

Plot
At the Krusty Krab, Squidward gives SpongeBob an order for a Krabby Patty. After making the patty, it begins to "move" and makes its way towards the front door. Mr. Krabs pulls Plankton off of the burger and sends him back to the Chum Bucket. Krabs explains that Plankton is his arch-competitor, and has been trying to steal the Krabby Patty's secret formula for years.
That night, after the Krusty Krab closes, Plankton tries to convince SpongeBob that they are friends, and that as such SpongeBob should give him a Krabby Patty. SpongeBob refuses and runs back home, but Plankton promises that SpongeBob will "hand deliver a Patty" to him.
Later that night, Plankton enters SpongeBob's head through a pore and makes his way to
SpongeBob's Brain. He attaches a mind control device to the brain and bends SpongeBob to his will, forcing him to walk to the Krusty Krab, get a Krabby Patty, and bring it to the Chum Bucket's Laboratory.
Plankton shows SpongeBob his computer, which can display the Ingredients of whatever he places in a nearby bowl. As a demonstration, he drops a piece of seaweed into the machine, to which Karen complies: 50% sea, 50% weed. Before he can force SpongeBob to drop the Krabby Patty in, SpongeBob begins a sorrowful ode to the Patty describing its tastiness. A hungry Plankton leaps onto the burger, bounces off its bun and falls into the bowl, and says "Oh Boy" before the computer displays his components (1% evil, 99% hot gas) on the computer screen. With Plankton stuck inside the computer, SpongeBob walks home.

Trivia/Goofs
*This is the first appearance of Karen and Plankton, and also the second episode Doug Lawrence voiced in. The first was Ripped Pants.
*SpongeBob's laugh is very different in this episode, as Tom Kenny was still trying to figure out how it should sound.
*SpongeBob's line to Plankton when he is in his brain, "Leave my brain alone!", has become a staple on T-shirts and in pop culture for media manipulation.
*When SpongeBob is walking towards his pants, the tie is red, but when the pants are just under his nose, it is black. This also happened in the episode Rock-A-Bye Bivalve.
*Squidward's bedroom is on the first floor of his house instead of on the third floor.
*In addition, this episode depicted Patrick's rock as hollow and that Patrick slept in the rock rather than under it.
*Plankton changes sizes throughout the episode. When he is first seen, a magnifying glass is required to see him clearly. When he encountered SpongeBob, he's about the size of SpongeBob's finger. When he sneaks into SpongeBob's brain, he is about the size of a walnut. Then when he jumps to the Krabby Patty, he is the size of SpongeBob's finger again.
*In this episode SpongeBob's mattress is full of flowers, but in other episodes his mattress is blank.
*In this episode, SpongeBob's brain doesn't have a brain stem, but in episodes his brain stem is there.
*When SpongeBob is asked for his "final words" (before he drops the patty) he reveals much of the recipe, but Plankton didn't notice.
*According to the commentary on the Complete 1st Season DVD, there is a deleted scene in which Squidward is naked.
*SpongeBob's House
*Squidward's House
*Jellyfish Fields

Plot
At work, SpongeBob daydreams of living with the jellyfish. He accidentally starts a fire, and a fireman runs in and turns on the hose. SpongeBob is in the way, thus fills up with water and falls on the fire, putting it out. After Mr. Krabs scrapes SpongeBob off the grill, he asks SpongeBob why he was not concentrating, and SpongeBob explains that he wishes to live in the wild. Mr. Krabs thinks he is joking, until SpongeBob walks out. SpongeBob then gives Patrick mayonnaise, old phone books, and his special jellyfishing net, Ol' Reliable. He even takes off all his clothes.

SpongeBob tries to fit in with the jellyfish, but is continuously shocked (literally) by them. Patrick is furious at SpongeBob’s decision and tries to catch him while jellyfishing. Nothing seems to persuade SpongeBob to come home, until he is bitten by poisonous sea urchins (they appear to be the underwater equivalent of mosquitoes). He decides to come back home, and everyone welcomes him back. Then, he puts on his clothes again and everyone hugs him (Squidward is forced to). The bacteria causing the itchiness spreads, and everyone becomes itchy, except for SpongeBob.

Trivia/Goofs
*After SpongeBob leaves, Squidward and Sandy try to guess how much days before he comes back. Sandy guesses a week, but Squidward guesses 11 minutes. This is a reference to approximately how long an average episode is. Squidward would also make a reference to this in the episode Club SpongeBob, a fish would do the same thing in the episode Missing Identity, as well as a time card in Planet of the Jellyfish.
*When SpongeBob wakes up from his daydream, the grill is shown facing the opposite side of the window. This is the first time it is shown like this. This also happens in Your Shoe's Untied and Bummer Vacation.
*The first episode SpongeBob eats a Krabby Patty. This episode also reveals SpongeBob's favorite food is a Krabby Patty.
*The same cave SpongeBob gets bitten by sea urchins appears once again in the episode SpongeHenge where SpongeBob builds the SpongeBob Stones.
*Ol' Reliable is also seen in the episode The Pink Purloiner.
*If Sandy has an air helmet and suit, she shouldn't have been able to get itchy.
*Mr. Krabs gives SpongeBob a Krabby Patty for free.
*At the beginning of the episode, there is a fire underwater.
*The Moon
*Treedome
*Bikini Bottom

Plot
When Sandy creates a rocket and tells SpongeBob that she's going to the moon, SpongeBob begs her to take him with her. Sandy tells him that there's not enough room, and SpongeBob compacts himself so he can fit into a small container. Sandy explains that she needs all of the containers and drawers, and tells him that this trip is for science, not fun. SpongeBob keeps on begging her, and she eventually accepts to take him. SpongeBob runs around the walls chanting "Going to the moon! Moon ride! Moon ride!", and annoys Sandy. Sandy has small net guns that she uses to harvest moon rocks, and denies the existence of aliens on the moon. Patrick comes to SpongeBob in the night and gives him some 'Alien repellent' (for windows), and they go to the rocket to spray it. Even though they're supposed to just spray the windows, Patrick goes inside and SpongeBob accidentally starts up the rocket. No-one is at the controls, so it goes into space, loops around the moon, and comes back to Bikini Bottom.
SpongeBob and Patrick, convinced that they're on the Moon, think that the aliens are projecting their memories onto the environment to trick them. They start catching everyone with the net guns, believing they're aliens. The two then deduce that each other is an alien so they try to capture each other. Patrick accidentally captures himself, and SpongeBob puts him in the rocket. He starts the rocket up again, and it crashes on the moon. Suddenly, SpongeBob realizes his terrible mistake and everybody (Sandy, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, Larry the Lobster, etc.) says "SpongeBob, the aliens would like to have a word with you".

Trivia/Goofs
*When Patrick is messing around with a control in Sandy's rocket while "playing a game", a sound effect in the background is the rotating block sound from Tetris.
*When SpongeBob and Patrick first become weightless in the rocket, a book floats by with "2001" written on its cover. This is a reference to Arthur C. Clark's novel 2001: A Space Odyssey.
*When SpongeBob tosses his first captured "alien" (Gary), a ticker on the rocket clicks to one and a "ding" sound is heard. This ding used to be a common sound on CBS game shows, but it is most famous for being used on the current US version of The Price is Right.
*This show is a spoof of alien films, specifically the 1986 James Cameron film, Aliens.
*SpongeBob’s belief that the "aliens" are "projecting" his and Patrick's memories of their home, Bikini Bottom, onto the lunar surface to put them into a false sense of security seems to be inspired from a short story, "The Third Expedition", from Ray Bradbury's book, the Martian Chronicles.
*When SpongeBob looks out at the window towards the moon, the view of Earth from the Moon looks almost exactly like the famed Apollo 8 photograph.
*A book based on this episode features an alternate ending where SpongeBob releases Sandy from the bag, as well as the citizens, and apologizes, but Sandy can see he still doesn't understand on what he did, and so when SpongeBob asks if he can hunt aliens, Sandy shoots SpongeBob as punishment before flying the rocket back to Bikini Bottom. It also contains an extra scene where Plankton is captured.
*During a Nickelodeon movie promotion in 1999, a set of scratch and sniff stickers were released at specified fast-food restaurants to be used with certain Nicktoons. One of them was used when Patrick squirted toothpaste in some peanut butter. Another one appeared when SpongeBob pulled a hot water bottle out from under sleeping Squidward. Also, the symbol that signaled you to "sniff" at the bottom right part of the screen was accidentally filmed along with the episode, and not edited over until late 2002, almost 3 years after the scratch and sniff packs were put out of circulation.
*A LEGO set called Rocket Ride based on this episode was released in 2008.
*Sandy's Rocket's scale changes between Bikini Bottom and the Moon, where it is almost as big as the moon itself.
*When SpongeBob and Patrick are having a tough time filling the "aliens" in the rocket ship, there were still many Bikini Bottomites captured and left on the ground. But after SpongeBob caught Patrick and Sandy, all the Bikini Bottomites were captured and the rocket was still half empty.
*Smoke from the rocket got into Sandy's treedome, despite the fact that the rocket is outside.
*It is unexplained to how everyone got back to Earth.
Birthday Song for Squidward

Plot
Squidward is annoyed by SpongeBob and Patrick and calls "Bikini Bottom Realty" to arrange for his house to be sold, so that he may move out of Bikini Bottom. He is warned that, if his home is surrounded by bad neighbors, the house may not be sold. Squidward is convinced that SpongeBob and Patrick may ruin his chances of selling his house.
So Squidward tells SpongeBob that it is "opposite day" - and that everyone must act differently to how they usually act. SpongeBob then demolishes his house and a shocked Squidward cleans up the debris in order to guarantee that SpongeBob does not look like a bad neighbour.

Pearl’s my Daughter

Plot
For Pearl's birthday, Mr. Krabs gives her a pair of fishing boots that only cost $2. After Pearl does not accept the gift, Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob that the boots are special, and only worn by the best official fry cooks in the world. SpongeBob, excited, exchanges his paycheck for them, and starts wearing them all day and night. The squeak annoys Squidward so much that he leaves on vacation and Mr. Krabs has to fill in for him. After a sleepless night because of a squeaking window, Mr. Krabs cannot stand the squeak of SpongeBob's boots anymore. At his wit's end, he steals the boots and buries them underneath the Krusty Krab. However, he feels guilty and starts going into a strange state of guilt and a weird curse of the boots, believing that he hears nothing but the constant squeaking of the boots (every word he sees in his restaurant is even replaced by the word "squeak"). He unburied the boots, shrinks them and eats them in a bout of insanity. He thinks he finally has peace and quiet and goes on vacation with Pearl, until he hiccups, making the boots (inside his body) squeak.

Trivia
*During a Nickelodeon movie promotion in 1999, a set of scratch and sniff stickers were released at specified fast-food restaurants to be used with certain Nicktoons. One of them featured the scene when Mr. Krabs dropped the boots in the boiling water. Also, the symbol that signaled you to "sniff" at the bottom right part of the sticker was accidentally filmed along with the episode, and not edited over until late 2002, almost 3 years after the scratch and sniff packs were put out of circulation.
*This is the second episode to feature computer-made sequences. The first was Jellyfish Jam.
*If you listen for it, SpongeBob’s regular shoes usually squeak.
*SpongeBob's original name (SpongeBoy) was refrenced in this episode ("SpongeBoy me Bob!").
*This episode is a parody of the short-story "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe. The line, "It's the squeaking of the hideous boots!" is reminiscent of the last line of that story.

*Sandy's Rocket's scale changes between Bikini Bottom and the Moon, where it is almost as big as the moon ist.
Plot
After SpongeBob captures a jellyfish in Jellyfish Fields, the jellyfish does not want SpongeBob to go away. So, SpongeBob brings a jellyfish home as a pet and shows Squidward, who is not impressed. Now, it is party time in SpongeBob's pineapple when the jellyfish and SpongeBob break it down with music so loud, that even Squidward tries to be even louder. When it is bedtime, the jellyfish saw his friends from outside the window (his friends are probably has been looking for him) then invites all the other jellyfish into SpongeBob's house and turn on the music to party. SpongeBob awakens and checks out the noise. When he notices all the other jellyfish, he tries to get them out but nothing works, not even Squidward's music; Squidward tried to play his clarinet in a horrible way, then the jellyfish stung him and broke his clarinet. But Gary has the answer! Gary's eyes clashing together making a musical beat is the answer to having the jellyfish stay calm. After SpongeBob notices this, he carries Gary back to Jellyfish Fields with a musical song on the way. As the jellyfish follow and float back into the fields, SpongeBob and Gary run back to the pineapple where they are finally safe from the jellyfish.

Trivia/Goofs
*This is the first episode to use computer-generated sequences.
*This is the only episode where SpongeBob's green bathrobe is a main-role cloth.
*The dance music that the jellyfish and SpongeBob dance to (called "Stadium Rave" on the SpongeBob CD The Yellow Album) is very similar to the song "Get Ready For This" by 2 Unlimited.
*The song "Stadium Rave" is an excerpt from "Stadium Rave" from the Associated Production Music album, Clubmix.
*The dancing scene is often used inSpongeBob music videos on YouTube.
*The song "Stadium Rave" was heard in one of the Real California Milk Happy Cow commercials.
*The episode shares its name with a VeggieTales book.
*When SpongeBob and Gary go back in the house from the roof the jellyfish go in with them and the house begins to get bigger. When the camera shows the house getting bigger, from the angle the camera is at, you can see there is only one window on SpongeBob's House.
*When SpongeBob is telling the jellyfish to go to bed, he's wearing his clothes. When he comes to his bedroom, he's still wearing his clothes, but soon in the very first scene of SpongeBob tying the jellyfish to his bed, he's in his underwear.
*When SpongeBob tells Squidward to play the clarinet better, Squidward's wearing his pajamas. When the camera comes closer to him, he's wearing his regular clothes. When he's preparing to play the clarinet through the speaker, he's wearing his pajamas again.
*When SpongeBob "milks" Jelly, he touches it's stingers, but does not get stung.
*When SpongeBob is looking for the jellyfish, when he puts on his green bathrobe, but there is no hook for it to hang on so it just floated there.
*This title card is similar to the one from "Jellyfishing".
Plot
After being selected Boating School Hall Monitor (after everyone else in class has been, sometimes twice), SpongeBob reads out a very long speech, and winds up wasting the entire day. Out of sympathy, Mrs. Puff allows SpongeBob to at least wear his cap and belt until the next day, though she suddenly has misgivings as she watches him go. SpongeBob immediately goes above and beyond the call of duty, first trying to guide traffic stuck at an out-of-order traffic light (and causing a massive pile-up), and then inadvertently igniting the rumor of Bikini Bottom's Open-Window Maniac. Then, SpongeBob finds Patrick littering his strawberry ice cream, and labels him as a criminal. When a front page newspaper headline alerts SpongeBob about the maniac causing trouble around town, he lets Patrick turn over a new leaf as a deputy. They end up getting ice cream twice (Patrick's idea of a scandal), but then SpongeBob and Patrick try and corner the maniac by splitting up and using walkie-talkies. Two policemen ask Patrick if he has seen the maniac: they show him a bad police sketch of SpongeBob. Darkness falls upon the town, quite literally, and Patrick becomes frightened. SpongeBob eventually meets up with Patrick again, but only via the walkie-talkie. Patrick spots the maniac from a distance, and reports his every move to SpongeBob, who of course believes the maniac is right on his tail. Shortly enough, SpongeBob realizes he himself is the maniac. The police are about to arrest SpongeBob, but Mrs. Puff tells the officers that he was her responsibility. Mrs. Puff must teach the next day's class via closed-circuit TV, from her jail cell.

Trivia/Goofs
*At first, Mrs. Puff was holding the hat and belt, but after SpongeBob’s speech, he has the hat and belt.
*When the police drive up to Patrick, both police fish's eyelids are green. But when they talk to him, the orange police fish's eyelids are orange.
*The song in the background when SpongeBob is giving his speech is the Pomp and Circumstance graduation theme.
*This is the first time Mrs. Puff gets arrested.
*It is implied that SpongeBob has never been hall moniter. However, when he finishes his speech he says to Mrs. Puff, "I overdid the speech again, didn't I?"
*One of the names Mrs. Puff mentions at the beginning of the episode was Clayton, which is the name of Stephen Hillenburg's son.
*There is a chapter book to tie in with this episode.
Plot
It is an average day at the Krusty Krab, until trouble-maker Bubble Bass has a special order for SpongeBob. When he gets his order, Bubble Bass lies about there being no pickles on it to cause trouble for SpongeBob, and it does. Much to Mr. Krabs' dismay, Bubble Bass knows about the microscopic "Money Back Guarantee" on on the menu, and Bubble Bass requests a refund (to be taken out of SpongeBob's paycheck). SpongeBob loses his confidence (and his mind) and cannot remember how to do anything. Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob to go home and get some rest. Squidward takes over the grill, leading to disaster, since he burns everything.
Mr. Krabs is worried about the effect that Squidward's cooking is having on business, so he resolves to get SpongeBob back to work. When Mr. Krabs arrives at SpongeBob's house, everything is in total disarray: eggs and toast are nailed to the walls, furniture is tipped over, music is playing backwards, and SpongeBob is wearing underwear on his head. Mr. Krabs explains to SpongeBob that if he remembers how to make a Krabby Patty, he will be back in order. It takes several days, but SpongeBob finally remembers how to make a Krabby Patty with the works. When SpongeBob returns to work, Bubble Bass requests the same food and lies about having no pickles again! SpongeBob cleverly realizes that Bubble Bass is putting the Pickles under his tongue. SpongeBob pulls up Bubble Bass' tongue, revealing several orders worth of pickles and the car keys of a Krusty Krab patron!

Trivia/Goofs
*It would have been impossible for Bubble Bass to hide the pickles under his tongue for so many days.
*SpongeBob says 3 cheers for Squidward, but he actually says hip-hip 4 times.
*When SpongeBob goes back to the Krusty Krab, we see he is wearing his hat. When he looks into the spatula, the hat is gone, but when we see him afterward, the hat is still on his head.
*On the menu, the Krabby Patty is misspelled as Krabby Pattie.
*Closed captioning error: In one scene, Bubble Bass is listed as Bubble Bath.
*In this episode, SpongeBob makes Krabby Patties in a different way than he usually does.
*While Mr. Krabs is talking to the confused SpongeBob in SpongeBob's house, the music that's playing is being played backwards.
*SpongeBob's House
*Outside Squidward's House
*Shady Shoals (debut)

Plot
Whilst pestering Squidward, SpongeBob and Patrick learn that their heroes, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, are in fact living in the Shady Shoals underwater retirement home, and they try to bring the two out of retirement, much to the annoyance of the geriatric Bikini Bottom superheroes who only want their TV fixed. SpongeBob and Patrick go through all kinds of hilarious antics to reunite their superhero pals and eventually succeed, by Barnacle Boy getting tired of them and calling other former superheroes, thereby creating Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy's new show: The New Adventures of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.

Trivia/Goofs
*When SpongeBob and Patrick devote themselves to help Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, music from Jurassic Park is heard in the background.
*Mermaid Man's outfit and super powers are both very similar to Aqua Man, while Barnacle Boy is a parody of Aqua Lad. Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy are also parodies of Batman and Robin.
*The Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy theme as introduced in this episode is called "The Lineman", which was originally composed by Sam Spence for NFL Films.
*Barnacle Boy was not the original sidekick of Mermaid Man. Originally, he was to hang out with an old coot named Barnacle Bill. Barnacle Bill, due to his marine mishaps, had a body made entirely out of driftwood. He also had flippers for arms and legs, wore a hat that looked similar to SpongeBob's Krusty Krab workhat, smoked through a wooden smoker (though he produced bubbles instead of smoke), and had a head that resembled that of the famous cartoon sailor Popeye. Stephen Hillenburg, though, couldn't find a use for Barnacle Bill, so he replaced him with Mermaid Man's current sidekick, Barnacle Boy.
*Mermaid Man illegally moves one of his checkers into a red space before the screen switches to "King me!"
*When Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy say "Dog paddle away!" and start dog paddling, you can clearly see Mermaid Man's socks are missing. After, they return when they dog paddle around SpongeBob and Patrick.
*When SpongeBob and Patrick are first asking the man at the front desk to see Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, an article on the inside of his newspaper reads, "School Drop Out Rate Increases and Global Ocean Warming".
*When SpongeBob and Patrick pretend their doughnuts are rings, Patrick first grabs a chocolate, but is later shown with a glazed.
* SpongeBob quotes: "Do you remember in episode 346 when the food supply in Atlantis was severely low?". That must mean that SpongeBob knows about Atlantis already, but in Atlantis SquarePantis, he does not.
Plot
At night-time, a crowd of nematodes are hungry. They plow through a variety of items, even devouring the boat of a fish named Fred while Fred is still driving it. Then they decide that they are thirsty, so they drink the juice out of SpongeBob's pineapple house. This causes it to shrink until it becomes nothing. SpongeBob and Gary now have to get a new home. At first, SpongeBob and Patrick try to build a new house, but they build a very small one. Then SpongeBob shares Patrick's rock, but Patrick's stupidity and bad luck causes him to go to Squidward. Squidward accepts (only because he's semi-conscious), and when he realizes what he's done, he kicks them out. The next day, SpongeBob and Gary pack their bags, ready to go back to Mom and Dad's house. He finds a small pebble (the only thing left when the nematodes ate/drank his house) in his pocket, and buries it where his house used to be. He sheds a tear on it, and he walks away. This pebble is actually a seed, and his tear causes his house to grow back. The house is placed back where it was, on top of dancing Squidward.

Trivia/Goofs
*SpongeBob said there was nothing left but a pebble (and Gary), yet he is shown with some bags when his parents pick him up.
*When SpongeBob says to Gary "Well, looks we have to move back in with Mom and Pop"; this indicates that SpongeBob had owned Gary before he moved out of his parent's house.
*When SpongeBob is in his parents' car he says "Good-bye Bikini Bottom!" This indicates that SpongeBob parents don't live in Bikini Bottom. This is further suggested when Squidward ran out of his house after he woke up and SpongeBob's parents mention they have dinner waiting, even though it's morning, likely meaning that Mr. and Mrs. SquarePants' home is many hours away.
*The Season 8 episode Home Sweet Rubble has a simalar title and plot.
*In Home Sweet Rubble, SpongeBob got his house back using Pineapple-in-a-Can. But in this episode, it came back with a seed.
*The house's circumference is smaller, and Gary and SpongeBob are about the same size. After the scene when SpongeBob and Gary learn that the house is shrinking, their size ratios are back to normal.
*When SpongeBob turns the wrench (the close-up picture of him before it shows Patrick falling and the picture tilts), SpongeBob’s shirt turns dark brown and the black stripes for his belt disappear.

Plot
The Krusty Krab makes its very first (and only) pizza delivery of the Krusty Krab Pizza. Mr. Krabs decides to have Squidward deliver it; Squidward hesitates and asks why SpongeBob cannot just deliver it by himself. Mr. Krabs obviously was not listening clearly and declares "Great idea, take him with ya!", so SpongeBob and Squidward go to deliver a pizza.

However, SpongeBob cannot drive and is still in boating school. When he tries to shift into reverse, he and Squidward become stranded in the middle of nowhere (or in a sandy desert.) When SpongeBob is trying to shift into reverse, the Korean words for "go forward" and "go backward" appear in SpongeBob's illusion as he starts to hesitate. SpongeBob suggests to deliver the pizza on foot, and they start walking. SpongeBob starts singing a song about the Krusty Krab Pizza, and how it is the best pizza on the sea floor. Then they get whirled into a tornado, and Squidward tells SpongeBob to let go of the pizza, but the pizza saves their lives when SpongeBob transforms it into a parachute. SpongeBob shows Squidward some pioneer tricks, such as hitchhiking, eating coral, telling where civilization is by looking at what direction moss points, and even driving rocks.

The eternally skeptic Squidward does not believe SpongeBob, but has to reconsider when they end up driving the rock all the way to the customer's house. Sadly, their journey did not pay off too well; the customer gets extremely angry that he did not get the soda he says he ordered (which he ordered but at that time,Mr Krabs put the phone down). SpongeBob starts crying (and absorbs his tears). Angered that the customer made SpongeBob cry, Squidward knocks on the door and breaks Tom's head by brutally shoving ot in his face. After the confrontation, the two drive back to work, which ironically is only a few feet away, but Squidward is already very worn out from the long pizza delivery.
Plot
SpongeBob is excited because his Mrs. Puff's Boating School's driving exam is today. He can't even remember how many times he took it, so Gary must remind him. If he passes it, he will get his license. First, he must pass the oral section of the exam. Having taken the exam thirty-seven times previously, SpongeBob is able to answer the questions before they are even asked. However, he panics in the boat and flunks the driving portion of the exam. Later that night, Patrick attempts to cheer SpongeBob up with a "surprise", but SpongeBob is too depressed to laugh. He explains his problem to Patrick and mentions that he needs someone to help him think straight during the exam. Patrick quickly devises a plan. He puts a walkie-talkie inside SpongeBob's head so that he can talk SpongeBob through the test, hiding the antenna with a large cowboy hat.
The next day, SpongeBob goes back to take the test again. When asked to start the boat, he initially panics, but Patrick's instructions keep him calm. This is followed by a video montage of SpongeBob acting the exam, interspersed with shots of Patrick eating SpongeBob's food and reading his diary while helping him. Mrs. Puff is floored by his sudden improvement and jokingly suggests that SpongeBob’s success is due to an antenna under his hat through which "some guy miles away is giving him all the answers." SpongeBob (and Patrick) finds this hilarious, until Mrs. Puff concludes, "But that would be cheating!" Upon realizing that he has been cheating, SpongeBob goes into hysterics, driving wildly all over the course and sobbing while Mrs. Puff tries desperately to stop him. He crashes the boat and thus flunks the test yet another time. In the end as Mrs. Puff is about to go to the hospital, SpongeBob apologizes for letting him down, and says he'll try harder next semester.

Trivia/Goofs
*This is the first time Fred yells, MY LEG!.
*The creator's name, Stephen Hillenburg, is not mentioned in the opening credits.
*When Mrs. Puff says she is not ready, her brown spots form a square, but when she comes out of the boating school, the bottom middle dot moves up, and when SpongeBob passes the oral exam, the dot moves back to its original position, and yet again, before she starts the boat, the dot moves back up again.
*Fred says "MY LEG!", even though he is not seen anywhere near the boating school.
*When Mrs. Puff gets in the boat, there are only two holes in her helmet, but when SpongeBob is driving the boat, there are three.
*A LEGO set based on this episode was released in 2007.
*This is the first episode to have a montage (SpongeBob driving successfully).

Plot
The episodes starts out when Squidward has made a very good soufflé, but SpongeBob and Patrick's laughing distracts him from enjoying it. Squidward sees they are having a private conversation with bubbles. They whisper a message into the bubble wand instead of blowing into it, and when the bubble pops, the message can be heard.
Annoyed, Squidward makes bubbles of his own, imitating SpongeBob and Patrick, but insulting them both. Thinking the bubbles are from each other, SpongeBob and Patrick become angry and get into a fight, eventually declaring that they are no longer friends. Squidward eats his soufflé while laughing, but in doing so chokes on the fork. Patrick performs CPR on him, and he becomes Squidward's friend.
Patrick falls asleep on Squidward when Squidward plays his clarinet and Squidward kicks him out and also Sprains his back. SpongeBob helps Squidward and becomes his friend. SpongeBob and Squidward decide to play music. SpongeBob plays a cello which he thinks is a bassinet, but instead of music he plays the music scratchily. SpongeBob breaks it when Patrick interrupts, and Squidward kicks him out.
Squidward decides to invite Patrick and SpongeBob to a dinner party (without telling either of them that the other is coming) in order to repair their friendship. When they arrive, they are still mad at each other. Squidward tries to get them back together, but the situation devolves into a competition to see who can drink the most soda and thus become Squidward's best friend. Squidward runs out of soda and leaves to get some more. While he is gone, SpongeBob and Patrick hiccup small bubbles that make a burping sound when they burst. They find this amusing and become friends again, but because they drank so many glasses of pop (SpongeBob drank 14 glasses and Patrick drank 12), their burps create a whole load of bubbles that make Squidward's house collapse. At the end, Squidward never put his key in the door, but he was able to open it anyway. He sees the whole place destroyed and tells himself that he made a mistake. SpongeBob mentions that he and Patrick are best friends again. After Squidward tells them to get out of his house, he slams the door. Then, a bubble just hit the door, which fell on Squidward's back. Squidward then cries, "Oh, oh... my back!"
*Gary's shell is smaller than usual.
*Squidward took nothing with him to go to the grocery store. After SpongeBob and Patrick get their friendship again by laughing carbon dioxide, Squidward has a grocery bag and keys. Soon, on the floor, there is no grocery bag or key.
*While Patrick saves Squidward, there is no glass cornering and blocking inside Squidward's house backyard square window. In the last full shot of the Conch Street backyards, the window has glass.

SpongeBob and Patrick decide that what Squidward needs is a "Best Day Ever" jellyfishing expedition. After an alphabet soup and SpongeBob's clarinet solo, (in which he didn't play), they took Squidward to Jellyfish Fields to demonstrate how to jellyfish. He is not into it at first, but when a jellyfish stings him, he goes after it for revenge. He manages to catch the jellyfish, but in doing so angers a queen jellyfish. The queen jellyfish chases after him, attacking him with an extremely massive sting.
The next day, SpongeBob and Patrick meet outside Squidward's house, and attempt to give a now life-support-bound Squidward the jellyfish that he caught the previous day. Squidward, still mad, opens the jar and lets the jellyfish attack SpongeBob and Patrick. As Squidward laughs, the royal giant discovers him and stings him, destroying his life-support. A completely blackened Squidward can only say, "Ow."

Plot
The Narrator introduces Goo Lagoon, a popular beach in Bikini Bottom. While at the beach, SpongeBob and Sandy are sitting down in beach chairs. SpongeBob puts on a show by making sand sculptures, which makes Sandy laugh. Larry the Lobster comes and asks if they want to lift weights. Sandy accepts quickly, while SpongeBob mopes behind them. When they arrive at the weight lifting area, Sandy lifts a bar weight and the crowd cheers. SpongeBob tries to get them to do something else, but Larry continues. He lifts a bar weight with six weights and the crowd cheers. Attempting to impress the crowd, SpongeBob lifts a stick but the crowd is bored. Sandy then lifts two anchors and is cheered. Larry then lifts the entire audience and bleachers, and once again the crowd cheers. A left out SpongeBob tries to get more attention by lifting marshmallows he borrowed from a fish who was roasting them. However, he accidentally rips his pants in the process, and the crowd laughs hysterically. Feeling embarrassed, SpongeBob sadly leaves the weight lifting area. Beachers continue to laugh at him and Scooter compliments him for the good laugh. When Sandy agrees, SpongeBob decides to use this as an advantage. He goes onto ripping his pants while playing volleyball, then while playing frisbee. SpongeBob and Sandy then proceed to get some ice cream in which he uses his ripped pants joke to gain attention. He gets carried away and uses the joke at the snack bar and a kitchen.
While at the surfing competition, SpongeBob rips his pants while surfing, which bores everyone. Realizing this, SpongeBob pretends to drown. When he washes up on the beach, a crowd gathers around him. He tells the lifeguard that he needs a tailor--because he ripped his pants. Everyone gets upset, including Sandy. He attempts to revive the joke by ripping his entire pants off, but it is unsuccessful. After he realizes that he has driven all his friends away, he asks himself if he is the biggest loser on the beach. This question is answered by three other beachers, who each believe they are the biggest losers on the beach. Evelyn, who forgot to put on sunscreen, a turtle, who got sand in burger buns, and a whale who was buried in the sand and forgotten. They ask SpongeBob what happened to him, and he tells his story through a song. The waves during the lines "Now I learned a lesson I won't soon forget, So listen and you won't regret" were identical to the one in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie credits, SpongeBob's song gains popularity; everyone on the beach sees this, and understands how he feels and that he apologizes. Sandy tells SpongeBob that if he wanted her to be his friend, he should have been himself. Larry asks for an autograph on his pants and SpongeBob accepts. He bends down to sign, and his underwear rips off completely. SpongeBob is now fully naked in public and blushes in embarrassment.

Trivia/Goofs
*This is the first appearance of Larry Lobster and also the first episode Doug Lawrence voiced in.
*SpongeBob rips his pants several times, but each time they appear fine in the next scene.
*A SpongeBob SquarePants toy that ties in with this episode marketed by Fisher-Price sings and rip its pants.
*This episode contains the show's first nude scene.
*The Ripped Pants song is simalar to the intro of "Be True To Your School" by the Beach Boys, as it is a parody of them.
*In the scene where SpongeBob pretends to drown, he has no sleeves for a brief shot, but they reappear after he looks at Sandy playing volleyball with Larry.
*When SpongeBob pretends to be a pizza deliverer, SpongeBob is actually holding 9 boxes of "pizza" instead of 20 boxes.

Plot
SpongeBob walks outside and admires the peacefulness of the neighborhood. Suddenly, he loudly sets up a bubblestand outside of his pineapple in order to teach others how to blow bubbles like he does. This annoys Squidward, who requests SpongeBob to be quiet. SpongeBob slows down and eventually finishes his stand. For 25 cents per lesson, he attempts to teach Patrick some of his tricks, showing him the technique that allows him to blow bubbles in various shapes and sizes.
One elephant-shaped bubble (Which Patrick calls a giraffe) floats into Squidward's window, thus attracting his foul temper. An angry Squidward marches out and attempts to blow a bubble that will upstage SpongeBob without using the technique, but he fails. He tries this over and over again, while SpongeBob and Patrick try to remind him of the technique. Finalley he gives in and sarcastically imitates the technique. He succeeds and creates a bubble so large it floats away as SpongeBob and Patrick cheer. Filled with pride, Squidward goes back into his house and plays the clarinet. However, the large bubble returns and engulfs his house completely. It floats toward the surface as he plays his clarinet. Suddenly, the bubble bursts, sending his house crashing to the sea-bottom. Squidward struggles to play his clarinet afterward.

Trivia/Goofs
*Prince Paul wrote a song about this episode. It can be heard on The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie soundtrack.
*The bubble-blowing technique includes references to "The Time Warp" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
*Clips from this episode appeared in the 2006 film Zathura, while the main characters were fighting over what to watch (the choices were SquarePants or SportsCenter).
*The ending of Squidward's clarinet solo is similar to the end of the early How to Play Blue's Clues theme.
Plot
The episode starts out with SpongeBob jellyfishing in Jellyfish Fields. Suddenly, he spots a young squirrel wrestling with a giant clam. He takes out his field guide book and identifies her as a 'land squirrel'. SpongeBob thinks she is in trouble, and goes to wrestle the clam himself. The squirrel manages to escape the clam, but SpongeBob ends up inside of it. The squirrel then rescues SpongeBob and throws the clam out of the area. SpongeBob introduces himself and the squirrel says that her name is Sandy Cheeks. SpongeBob inquires about the helmet she wears and Sandy tells him that it is her air helmet. Not having any idea what air is, SpongeBob decides to tell her that he loves air in order to impress Sandy. Surprised that SpongeBob seems to like air, Sandy invites him to her 'Treedome' for "Texas tea" and cookies. SpongeBob quickly runs over to his best friend Patrick Star and tells him everything that happened. Patrick tells him that 'putting on airs' is fancy talk. He then tells SpongeBob if he wants to be fancy, he will have to hold his pinky finger high above him.<br>
When SpongeBob arrives at Sandy's Treedome, he goes inside noticing that the water level drops. He panics and tells Sandy about that fact who obviously is not very surprised. She does not realize that sea creatures need water to survive. Sandy then gives him a tour of her treedome, showing him that she has an oak tree, a bird bath, and other things. During this, SpongeBob quickly sneaks over to the bird bath, which is filled with water; he now knows he needs water to breathe properly. In the meantime Patrick arrives outside the Dome and still tries to convince SpongeBob to hold his finger above him. When Sandy comes back with a water-filled vase for the flowers SpongeBob brought her, the sponge cannot longer resist, drinks the water and runs to the door trying to escape. Patrick, misinterpreting the situation, thinks that SpongeBob is just shy and enters the Treedome in order to help his friend. After a moment he realizes that there is no water leading to both desperately trying to open the door. When Sandy comes back and sees SpongeBob and Patrick lying on the grass, she helps them by giving them water-filled helmets which supplies both with enoug water. In the end, Sandy proposes a toast to new friends and they drink their tea.
Plot
Squidward walks outside and sees a shell on his lawn. He believes that it ruins the appearance of his lawn, so he kicks it onto SpongeBob's lawn. Suddenly, SpongeBob pops out of his window and sees the shell. Trying to clean his lawn, SpongeBob takes his "reef blower" (an underwater version of a leaf blower) and starts to blow away the tiny shell. But the only thing he blows is a large column of sand landing onto Squidward. To fix this problem, SpongeBob blows the sand off, which irritates Squidward's eyes. SpongeBob peers over at his sidewalk and sees a pile of sand. He then sucks the pile of sand into the reef blower, which malfunctions. The sand and a few mechanical gears blow out. So SpongeBob unzips the reef blower and puts them in himself. When the reef blower refuses to start, SpongeBob pulls the cord to an extreme distance and it finally starts. However, it sucks in all of the water. The reef blower then explodes, leaving piles of sand all over Squidward's lawn, while SpongeBob's lawn is perfectly clean. Satisfied, SpongeBob goes back inside, while the shell lands on Squidward's nose.
*When shown on TV this episode and Help Wanted are literally stuck together. The title card for this episode pops up as soon as Help Wanted finishes with no commercials in-between. This format is also used several times in Season 5.
*Squidward is shown in this episode to turn purple over water. In other episodes he stays the same.
*This is the shortest episode to date, with a length of approximately 3-4 minutes.
*When the reef blower blows up, the crash SFX used is the one often used on The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss.
*Although this is the only episode that is silent, SpongeBob says "You", although he only mouthes it. The word is seen as a subtitle.
*This is the first time a reef blower is seen. It also appears in Squidville and Born to Be Wild.
*The episode was orginally going to have dialogue, but the recording equipment broke and the episode was rewritten to be silent.
Plot
A narrator with a French accent introduces SpongeBob, a sponge who lives in a pineapple in the city of Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob's foghorn alarm clock rings, waking him up in the morning. He tells his pet, Gary the Snail that he must be in good shape because this particular day is important. He jumps off of his diving board and lands in his pants. He goes to his exercise room and lifts a bar-weight (which is actually two stuffed animals). Afterwards, SpongeBob exclaims that he is ready.
He runs outside and down the street to the Krusty Krab, repeatedly saying, "I'm ready" while his neighbor and best friend, Patrick Star, cheers him on. SpongeBob sees the 'Help Wanted' sign on the Krusty Krab window. He then declares that he is ready to obtain the job, which he has been dreaming of for years; however, he loses his confidence. Patrick convinces him to apply for the job, and so SpongeBob does, thereby declaring he is ready three more times. Squidward Tentacles, the head cashier, is cleaning the window (above his head the word 'loser' is written on the glass pane). Squidward sees that SpongeBob wants the job, and so he tells restaurant-owner Eugene H. Krabs that SpongeBob does not qualify for the job. SpongeBob walks into the Krusty Krab and asks for the job. To get rid of him, Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob that he can join the 'Krusty Crew' if he passes a "test"--which is to obtain a 'Hydrodynamic Spatula with Port and Starboard Attachments and a Turbo-Drive'.
As soon as SpongeBob leaves, six buses drop off a large crowd of hungry anchovies. They barge into the Krusty Krab, demanding Krabby Patties. Attempting to keep things in order, Squidward complains about their behavior and then requests that there be a single-file line in front of the cash register. But the anchovies vehemently protest, forming a riot of angry anchovies set to resemble a stormy sea. This forces Squidward and Mr. Krabs to climb up the 'mast'. Suddenly, SpongeBob arrives, flying by with his 'Hydrodynamic Spatula with Port and Starboard Attachments and a Turbo-Drive'. Mr. Krabs is flabbergasted at the fact that SpongeBob actually passed the "test". SpongeBob flies into the kitchen and satisfies the needs of the angry anchovies by making a huge amount of Krabby Patties.
When the last anchovy gets its Krabby Patty, Mr. Krabs is delighted. He hires SpongeBob by welcoming him to the Krusty Crew and giving him a name tag. At the end, Patrick walks in and asks for a Krabby Patty, which causes SpongeBob to race into the kitchen and make a huge stream of Krabby Patties, which then hits Patrick and sends him flying out of the restaurant.

Animation style
This episode is the first, so it has many differences to the rest of the series. However, the original version of the episode had many other minor differences corrected later. For example, this is the only episode where SpongeBob's bed is on the right. Differences in voices are another example. SpongeBob's voice is slightly lower and Patrick's is deeper. Designs and colors are also different. For example, SpongeBob has fewer holes than in newer episodes, Mr. Krabs' eyelids are bright pink opposed to red, Squidward's complexion is more pale, his laugh is different, the comedic "splat" sound is different, and his nose does not puff in and out when he laughs. Gary's eye pupils and irises are smaller with a lower tone of voice in the "meow" (although Tom Kenny claims to use a new "meow" for each episode where Gary is shown meowing). Squidward also appears to have rows of sticks behind his house. Differences in SpongeBob's house are also present in this episode, but not in others, such as there is only one window in the front. SpongeBob's alarm clock has a different ship horn sound than his alarm clock in later episodes. The changes were made when the series officially aired.

Trivia/Goofs
*In the "written by" section of the opening credits, Stephen Hillenburg is incorrectly spelled as Stephen Hilleburg.
*This is the first episode of the SpongeBob SquarePants .
*Tiny Tim's "Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight" is featured in the episode.
*During "Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight", Tiny Tim sings "Just take it from me, I'm just free as any daughter", but the captions read, "Just take from me, I'm just free as any brother".
*The animation was not as high quality unlike the following episodes, as the rapid movements made by SpongeBob. When he was bouncing off the walls, roof, and floor of the Krusty Krab it just showed a yellow square. When the anchovies were jumping up and down they were just blue and brown (mostly blue) finger-shaped ovals.
*Initially, the debut episode was not included on the SpongeBob season 1 DVD set, presumably because of music licensing issues involving the aforementioned song. However, the episode has since been made available on the DVD release of the third season as a bonus feature, and on the 10 Happiest Moments DVD as a bonus episode.
*Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Patrick, and SpongeBob all have a different tone in skin color than in other episodes.
*Mr. Krabs' eyelids are pink in this episode. In every other episode, they are red. *SpongeBob cooking the Krabby Patties was not possible because Mr. Krabs didn't give him the formula.
*In this episode, Gary's eye pupils are red dots, but in further episodes they are black dots in red dots.
*Its unknown how SpongeBob got into the Krusty Krab when the door was blocked by anchovies.
