SpongeBob explains that Squidward has not come to work for months and suggests checking on him, but Mr. Krabs only allows him to do so after work hours.

When they see his overflowing mailbox and the awful stench coming from his house, SpongeBob knocks on the door, only for a huge pile of trash to pour out on top of them. When they venture inside, they discover that the entire house is filled with garbage. Bubble Bass suddenly appears and, after rambling nonsense, tells them where to find Squidward, whom he calls "The Exhalted One."

| − | Setting off through the heaps of trash, they climb a mountain of garbage, only to fall onto a wooden plank floating down a river of waste, which they abandon when they encounter a waterfall. Unable to cross a deep trench, they spot some sea urchins playing cards and steal their cards and even their tiny sandwiches. They use the cards to build a bridge and make it across just in time before the urchins can knock it down.

After struggling through a tunnel full of smelly socks and taking a dip in a pool of garbage juice, they finally arrive at Squidward's trash temple. Bubble Bass appears once more and shows them the way inside, where they find Squidward completely out of his mind.

SpongeBob manages to restore Squidward's memory by reminding him that he has a job and two neighbors, both of whom he hates. Patrick then takes out a lit candleholder, which ignites the gas and sends Squidward's entire house blasting off like a rocket, with Bubble Bass still inside. SpongeBob and Patrick say goodbye to Squidward, who miserably covers himself with a trash can with a "Do Not Disturb" sign.
