David Fain grew up in Boxford Massachussetts. He received his B.F.A. in Film/Animation from the Rhode Island School of Design and his Masters Degree in Experimental Animation from the California Institute of the Arts, and he directed SpongeBob SquarePants in a series crew member on six episodes from Season 1 and Season 2.
