LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants is a series of LEGO building sets based on the Nicktoon of the same name. The first three sets, The Krusty Krab, Build-A-Bob, and Adventures in Bikini Bottom, were released in 2006.

LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants was initially part of the same wave of LEGO sets as fellow Nicktoon Avatar: The Last Airbender. The first wave was not considered a separate theme from the Avatar sets; they were considered a single, two-part Nickelodeon-based theme simply titled "Nickelodeon." The idea of combining them in a two-part theme was for fans to choose which one was a better theme, and the SpongeBob SquarePants theme was chosen because of its popularity. Unlike most LEGO themes, this one includes a variety of interesting pieces, as the characters and sets are different from most other themes. Also, many variations are seen, most notably Squidward's head, initially a standard minifigure head before being changed to a special head more closely resembling his actual head.

After LEGO got the Disney franchise from Mega Bloks for 2010 and 2011, Mega Bloks announced that they had made a new deal with Nickelodeon. The SpongeBob theme was therefore retired in 2010. However, the deal with Disney, which spawned themes based on Disney-owned properties such as Toy Story, didn't last long, and the LEGO SpongeBob theme was relaunched in 2011, after the Toy Story theme was discontinued.
