Privacy and Personal Information on SpongePedia

SpongePedia is a freely accessible online wiki, open to contributions and edits from users around the world. As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and responsible community — especially for our younger users — we ask all contributors to take great care when handling personal information.

General Principles

Please remember that any content you publish on SpongePedia may be visible to the public. We therefore strongly discourage sharing personal data that could compromise your privacy or security. The following rules are mandatory for minors and strongly recommended for all users:

Do not share:

  • Your full real name, home address, or phone number. This kind of personally identifiable information (PII) must not be posted under any circumstances.
  • Your email address. Posting an email address in plain text can lead to spam, phishing, or malware attacks. While it may be tempting to share contact details, please use SpongePedia’s internal messaging system instead, which keeps your email address private.
  • Messenger usernames (e.g. Facebook, Discord, WhatsApp, etc.). These can be misused by spam bots or malicious users. If you choose to share such contact information, we recommend creating a separate account that does not reveal your identity.

Allowed:

  • Your date of birth. You may mention your birth date, but only if you feel comfortable doing so. Please be cautious and avoid disclosing it together with other identifying details.

Data Security

While SpongePedia takes steps to protect user privacy (such as not displaying registered email addresses), we cannot fully control how external parties may use information posted publicly on the site. It is your responsibility to consider the risks before sharing any personal data.

If you are ever unsure whether something is safe to share, we encourage you to contact an administrator. For more detailed information, see the Wikipedia article on Information Privacy.
