This episode celebrates the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants.
At the end of the episode, a number of celebrities appear to wish SpongeBob a happy birthday, including Tiffany Haddish, Sigourney Weaver, JoJo Siwa, Michael Strahan, RuPaul, Kel Mitchell and Gilbert Gottfried.
This episode is dedicated in memory of show creator Stephen Hillenburg, who passed away on November 26, 2018, almost eight months before this special aired. A thank you message saying "Thank you Steve Hillenburg" appears at the very end of the episode.
