Dr. Plankenstein is the master and creator of SpongeMonster. He first appears in the The Patrick Star Show episode Stair Wars and is a recurring character on TPSS. He has an ex-wife who resembles Karen Plankton, as shown in Terror at 20,000 Leagues.

He resembles Sheldon J. Plankton, except he has hair sticking out the sides of his head. He has one eye with a large eyebrow. He wears a collared undershirt and tie with an overcoat.
