Hans is a sailor that appears in a few episodes and in the show's intro. His hands are the only part of him visible in every single episode he appears in. It is unknown if other parts of him besides his hands will be revealed in future episodes. He has a big role in Suds, where he gives SpongeBob the Sponge treatment and gives him a lollipop. Hans's voice is heard in that episode, but it is unknown who voices him there. In the credits of Imitation Krabs, where his voice is heard again, it is revealed that Tom Kenny voiced him; the person who "plays" him is still unknown as the face wasn't revealed (although you could see the body reflection when he is using SpongeBob to clean dishes at the sink plus adding the soap). In Model Sponge, his look gets more updated. At the end of "Model Sponge," his hand is seen on the toilet as he says his longest line he's ever said thus far: "Hey, would you keep it down in here? I'm trying to concentrate!" Usually, he speaks in a Dutch accent. He also appears in the video game Battle for Bikini Bottom, picking up the player's character when SpongeBob, Patrick, or Sandy go out of bounds or fall. He does the same thing in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie. His hand appears again in the Rock Bottom museum in the game, on a portrait.

• The intro in every episode expect for the special intro used for Truth or Square. Here, when SpongeBob appears without his pants, he's shown putting SpongeBob's pants on the porous sponge's body.

  • In Squidward's intro, he's shown putting Squidward's shirt on the octopus' body.
  • In Patrick's intro, he does the same thing he does with SpongeBob in the regular intro, but with Patrick's shorts being put on the dim-witted starfish's body.
  • In Mr. Krabs' intro, since Krabs is fully clothed, Hans instead takes the money bag that Krabs is holding and proceeds to take the bag offscreen, leaving some of the cash to float to the ground as Krabs begins to pick it up.

• In the episode "Model Sponge," Hans has an Austrian accent similar to Arnold Schwarzenegger's.
• Hans is one of the few non-aquatic creatures.
